Row breaks out after four-year-old told not to wear hijab to Catholic school

A Roman catholic school has angered many people due to the fact that they didn't allow a four year old Muslim girl to wear a headscarf to school. It is said that St Clares school in Hemsworth have a very strict uniform policy which includes no headwear or headscarf's. The school told the parents to respect there policy. The girls father went and told the Birmingham's city council's labour cabinet member of equalities, which they then wrote to the head teacher saying how there policy goes against the equalities act .

But his colleague Coun Majid Mahmood from Hodge Hill said that as a faith school St Clare’s is “maybe within its rights to insist upon a particular dress code,” just as a Muslim faith school “may require girls to wear headscarves”.

A former head of equalities for Birmingham City Council, agreed saying there is no religious requirement for girls of infant school age to wear the hijab.

I think that the school should have been more compassionate towards the parents because what they were basically saying is that there religion doesn't matter as long as their in the school building.  I also think that the girl should've been allowed to wear a hijab because that's her religion and if there religion says that they should wear a hijab you should respect it.
This article shows a representation of religion and issues which is injustice

  1. You should should develop on the representation a bit more. Interesting article but i can sort of see where the school is coming from, because its a catholic school which means you have to be in that religion to get into that school so it would be odd for them to see another religion coming in and not following the rules. However with that being said if this was a normal state primary school and they said that they would be doing the most and it wouldn't be ok.

  2. There is a good amount of detail, also a very good story which represents religion in the media, however the picture at the bottom could have a description e.g. what he is doing and where he is.
